Hi Mary,
We’ve met several times over my career. Most recently at the AAM Political Advocacy seminar last winter in D.C. I’d be interested in knowing more about this, as I do fall into this category. I’m currently the Executive Director at Historic Yellow Springs in Chester Springs, PA.
Thanks,
Rob

Hi Mary,
I am interested if you’ll be doing anything with those of us on the outskirts of the years the cuspers and tweeners like myself with a foot between 13rs and Boomers. I am thinking my thought processes are more like a 13 than some of the older boomer I know. Any thoughts there?
Great to see you?
The buzz and rapport in AAM seems to have been fabulous. Warm Congrats. I’m going to send more potential 13rs your way.
Kathy

Hi Kathy (and Mary):
I’m in the same boat as you, being born in 1962, so I’m one of the Cusp folks. I’m at different times more like a Boomer and other times more like a 13er.
Also, it was interesting to hear at AAM from a few folks who fall in the “13er” category. Seems they don’t like the title so much, and in fact don’t like being categorized at all. Is this a generational thing?

Greg notes that “a few folks who fall in the ‘13er’ category” seem not to “like the title so much, and in fact don’t like being categorized at all”. The thing, of course, is that projects like this, once started, never look back or critically inward because, clueless as they are, someone’s ego might be hurt.
Across the country from the Museum for Contemporary Art in Chicago to the Studio Museum in Harlem, people born between 1961 and 1981 are already chief curators and directors of major museums. In the contemporary art area, they have served consistently as artistic directors of the most prestigious national and international biennials. Yet, someone at AAM believes that they ought to be singled out and bunched into some little sister/little brother lot. And you’re surprised that they’re not amused?
There must be other, more relevant platforms on which museum professionals can network than some gerontocratic bs based on some boring book. People get a life, please!
